Profile
Biography
Marianna Liosi's research investigates activist practices online and offline. Intending the digital sphere as part of the public domain, she explores emotions as mobilizing tools, digital memory, the memory of places and justice, and the question of the expanded spectator. Inscribed within this framework, Marianna has developed long-term research on the Tunisian art scene in the revolutionary time. As an independent curator, Marianna has developed projects internationally. She is a co-founding member of eSseda.lab project space, an artist initiative conceived and directed by artist Souad Mani, in partnership with the High Institute of Agronomic Sciences of Chott-Meriem, Sousse (Tunisia), and the Association Delta, launched officially in April 2024. In 2020 she served as Program curator and space coordinator at Coculture, Berlin. Crossing the boundaries between education and curatorial practice, in 2016, Marianna initiated the long-term experimental curatorial-pedagogical laboratory Between-Broadcast Workshop (BB-W). She has curated film screenings, workshops, and exhibitions in art institutions, such as: eSseda.lab (Sousse, 2024) Schwartzsche Villa, Berlin (2023); St. Monica Chapel (in cooperation with La Boîte), Carthage (2022); EMOP - European Month of Photography Berlin (2020); Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin (2019); 00 Bienal de la Habana, Havana, D21 Kunstraum in Leipzig (2018); and Between Bridges, Berlin (2016). Marianna has published essays in artist’s books and academic edited volumes: such as Pöros Werden. Geteilte Räume urbane Dramaturgien, performatives Kuratieren (Verlag Turia+Kant, Wien 2024); Visual Activism in the 21st Century. Art, Protest and Resistance in an Uncertain World (Bloomsbury, 2022), The Twenty-First Century Performance Reader (Routledge, 2019), Image Testimonies - Witnessing in Times of Social Media (Routledge, 2019), Written in the margins. Shubigi Rao (Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin, 2017). She has occasionally contributed as a writer to art and non-art magazines such as, opendemocracy.net and Ibraaz.
