Biography

Dr Juliet Chambers-Coe is a Certified Movement Analyst (Laban). She is Lecturer in Movement at E15 Acting School at the University of Essex. Her research focuses on Rudolf Laban’s philosophy of movement and its spiritual foundations, with a particular focus on training actors. Juliet is the Principal Editor of the Journal Dance, Movement, and Spiritualties (Intellect), and is Associate Director of the UK Association for Somatics, Movement, and Dance Therapy. Since 2005 she has worked extensively as a movement educator across the UK in Acting conservatoire training schools and in the U.S and China. She is the founder and creator of the Labanarium: Resource and Network Centre (www.labanarium.com) for the International Movement Community. This project supports the sharing and development of movement and dance research and scholarship in the tradition of Rudolf Laban which aims to reach across institutional and geographic boundaries. Juliet is a highly experienced academic leader and practitioner with extensive experience of teaching in Higher Education, professional expertise in contemporary acting techniques, and a specialist in movement for actors in the professional training conservatoire. She is committed to developing healthy, diverse, and progressive teaching and learning environments where excellence in practice and research in theatre and performance can make real change and impact towards a rigorous, healthier, and more diverse industry.
