Biography
Dr Shaila Ahmed is a Lecturer in Accounting at Essex Business School. Before joining Essex in 2016, she worked as a Lecturer in Accounting and Information Systems at the University of Dhaka since 2008. She holds a PhD in Accounting. Her research interests lie in critical accounting, corporate accountability, governance and sustainability practices, and modern slavery and labour control in global supply chains. She has published research papers in leading academic and policy journals, including the Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal, Accounting Forum, Critical Perspectives on International Business and Development in Practice, among others. Shaila is a fellow of the UK's Higher Education Academy and a member of BAFA. Her recent research looks at modern slavery and business human rights violations from the perspectives of gendered economic, social and ecological justice. She has collaborated with established academics, local and international policymakers, and third-sector organisations and secured £0.6 million ESRC funding.
