Head of our Department of Economics, Professor Carlos Carrillo-Tudela, has become a Fellow of the Royal Economic Society, in recognition of his commitment to the advancement of economics.

In awarding the Fellowship, the Society praised Professor Carrillo-Tudela's research record, which demonstrated evidence of top-tier publications and his clear commitment to training by supporting the employability of students at all levels, including the development of a new conference for PhD students.

The Society further acknowledged his “substantial” contribution to policy, with impactful advisory work for HM Treasury, the Department for Work and Pensions, the Monetary Policy Committee and the Low Pay Commission.

Professor Carrillo-Tudela's research focuses on the macroeconomics of labour markets and aims to understand the effects of human capital, worker mobility and firm dynamics on aggregate unemployment and earnings inequality.

“I am delighted to be elected a Fellow of the Royal Economic Society,” said Professor Carrillo-Tudela. “It is a great honour. I am looking forward to engaging with its activities and continue promoting research on inequality.”
