As part of our ongoing commitment to the Age-friendly Employer Pledge we're promoting the national Age Without Limits campaign and Action Day on Wednesday 20 March.

Back in September 2023, Essex became the first university in the country to sign the Age-friendly Employer Pledge. In doing so the University joined more than 250 employers to have signed the Pledge developed by the Centre for Ageing Better to encourage an age-inclusive environment.

The campaign and Action Day are looking to challenge ageism in everyday conversations and to take a stand against ageism across the country, so that we can begin to change the way we think and act about age and ageing.

Professor Maria Fasli, Age Inclusion Champion (as well as Champion for Sex, Gender, Pregnancy, Maternity, Marriage and Civil Partnership), said: “We value a multigenerational workforce and have made a commitment to an inclusive working environment for every member of our community, so that together we create a workplace that enables everyone to achieve their best and have fulfilling professional lives.

“Older members of staff form an important part of our community. The Centre for Ageing Better’s Age Without Limits Campaign and Action Day focuses on changing mindsets around ageing stereotypes, some of which we may not even be aware that we hold.”

The Centre for Ageing Better is a charity funded by the National Lottery Community Fund with a focus on improving the inequities faced by older people, and the Age Without Limits campaign is drawing attention to this very important subject.

As part of the campaign, the Centre for Ageing Better is hosting an exhibition of photography in central London to celebrate the huge diversity across ages which is open to the public.  In the next few weeks, you will also see information about the campaign on billboards in major UK cities and in the national press on the theme of ‘See and Be Seen.’
