Jane Hamilton, Chair of the University’s Council, has been appointed Chair of the board at NHS Property Services (NHSPS).

Jane, who has more than 30 years’ experience in corporate, property and government sectors, will help NHSPS deliver its commitment to excellent patient care. She will continue in her role as Chair of Council at Essex.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Anthony Forster said: “This is a major public appointment and a significant national role and Jane’s appointment comes at a time when the NHS matters to us all more than ever.

“Jane will bring a very wide range of public and private sector experience to her role as Chair of NHS Property Services and we wish her well.”

Jane has previously worked at a senior executive level in global banks, investment management and property corporations. She is a Non-Executive Director of the Government Property Agency and was on the Board of Trustees at the Institute of Cancer Research between 2015 and 2019.

NHSPS is a government-owned company helping the NHS get the most from its estate. Its portfolio is one of the largest in the UK, with more than 3,000 properties and 7,000 tenants across England, representing about 10 per cent of the total NHS estate.

Announcing Jane’s appointment to colleagues, NHSPS CEO Martin Steele said: “Jane will help to deliver on our strategic purpose of enabling excellent patient care. I know from our recent discussions that she is particularly keen on helping to improve the NHS colleague and patient environment and providing healthcare facilities that meet the needs of the future in a sustainable manner.”

Jane replaces current Chair Ian Ellis as of 22 March.
