Essex Business School has been acknowledged as a rising star in educating the business leaders of the future.

The school, based at the University of Essex, has been awarded a WRDS-SSRN Innovation Award 2020 – in recognition of the growing number of academic papers, and resulting citations, being produced by the school’s academics.

The award for the Europe, Middle East and Africa region, comes with $10,000 prize money to be spent on research. It was presented at the annual conference of the AACSB – the world’s largest business education alliance, which aims to connect educators, learners and businesses to create the next generation of great leaders.

Its membership includes over 1,700 organisations and more than 840 accredited business schools worldwide – united in a mission to improve the quality of business education and inspire innovation and quality.

Professor Neil Kellard, Dean of Essex Business School said: “It's a real privilege to be given the award, in particular because of the high standard of previous awardees and the repute of the two awarding organisations.

“The award itself is a testament to the hard work, growing research base and expertise at Essex Business School. The School is AMBA accredited and now has over 100 academics, the vast majority of them very research active, across the substantive subject areas of accounting, finance, management and marketing, organisational studies and human resource management, and strategy, operations and entrepreneurship.”

The award was sponsored by Wharton Research Data Services, based at the University of Pennsylvania and SSRN, the international journal and repository for academic papers in the field of social science.
