Two nurses

We are delighted to see that four of our students have been shortlisted in the Student Nursing Times Awards 2020.

The awards bring together the nursing community to shine a light on the brightest talent making their way into the profession.

Each of our shortlisted students has been selflessly involved in enacting change for the betterment of others.

Amma Frimpong has been shortlisted for the Mary Seacole Award for Outstanding Contribution to Diversity and Inclusion for working tirelessly to empower and promote social justice in the nursing profession. She strives to empower and impact positively on the lives of people through her clinical and charity work and she successfully delivered an informative event to celebrate Black History Month.

Rosina Chapman has been shortlisted for the Adult Student Nurse of the Year Award. A true ambassador for the nursing profession, Rosina is constantly seeking to improve the lives of others and has been described by her lecturers as an “extremely impressive and exceptional student” whose “selfless, caring demeanour puts others before herself".

Nkiruka Caroline Igwilo and Jola Tong are both shortlisted for the Mental Health Student Nurse of the Year Award.

Jola is described as a self-effacing genuine, gentle and generous student who has a depth of perspective that enables her to see beyond the obvious and intervene to effect hope and ambition.

Dean of the School of Health and Social Care, Professor Victoria Joffe, said: “To have four students shortlisted in the Student Nursing Times Awards is a real credit to the quality of our students and the commitment and passion of our teachers in the School. It also reflects the commitment of the School and the University to excellence in nursing education.”

Thomas Currid, Senior Lecturer in the School, added: “I’m delighted that the students have been shortlisted for these very prestigious awards. It is a true objective testament of their values base and commitment to improving lives through both their nursing practice and extra-curricular activities.”

The winners of Student Nursing Times Awards 2020 will be announced in a ceremony on Friday 24 April 2020 at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
