We have a variety of shared and self-contained accommodation which is suitable for single or double occupancy. If you're a first-year student who is accompanied by a partner, we can't guarantee you accommodation together, but we'll do our very best to help.
Just make sure you get in touch as early as you can if you think you need to chat any of this through with us.
Don't forget, you can apply for accommodation with us as soon as we're your first choice.
Twin rooms give you the choice to share a room with another paying student, either a friend or a relative of the same gender, who is a student. List the PRID of the student in the additional information field on the online application form. Your friend must also submit their own separate application and have the same preferences as you.
They aren't suitable for couples.
If you do not have anyone you want to share with, we can add you to a waiting list and will pair you with another applicant that also wants to live in this type of accommodation.
You're welcome to request an allocation with your friend, however there isn't a guarantee. List the PRID of the student in the additional information field on the online application form. Your friend must also submit their own separate application and have the same preferences as you.

Reduced availability
Due to essential maintenance works in the North Towers, the number of available self-contained apartments will be greatly reduced for the 2025-26 academic year.
Our self-contained apartments come in a variety of layouts with bathroom, kitchen, lounge, and bedroom facilities. These apartments are located on our Colchester Campus, mostly in the North Towers and South Towers.
They're allocated on a first come first served basis, so we can't guarantee you'll be given this type of accommodation. You can select the type of apartment, but not the location. We don't offer the option for you to choose the layout.
Let us know when you apply if you need the double bed replaced with two single beds, this is not a problem, however, our premium apartments only come with fixed double beds.
Cabled and Wi-Fi internet connection and utility bills are included in the accommodation charge.
An oven and hob, microwave oven, fridge/freezer, kettle, vacuum cleaner and, ironing board are provided. We do provide a washer/dryer, but only in the premium apartments. You'll need to bring your own bedding, towels, cooking utensils, iron, cutlery and crockery.
