Safeguarding policy and guidance

Our University is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all who participate in our organised activities or services. We take reasonable steps to ensure that we:

  • promote and safeguard the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk
  • safeguard those vulnerable to being drawn into terrorism
  • comply with our statutory obligations and University governance

The University’s duty of care to safeguard others is the responsibility of all members of the University, whether staff, students or visitors, and places particular emphasis on safeguarding children, young people and adults at risk. The scope of the duty of care extends across all University activities, particularly those whose function includes ‘regulated activity’ and/or for those who are in a ‘position of trust’, including activities related to programmes of study validated by the University and delivered in partnership by external providers. The University expects staff to be aware of their responsibilities and act accordingly at all times.

This reflects a recent update in the Policy on Safeguarding Children and Adults at Risk.
