Conspiracy Theories and Misinformation Undermine Sustainability

This event is part of a series of Psychology seminars that regularly occurs during the Autumn and Spring terms.

Last summer's unprecedented heat, declining water levels, and wildfires highlighted the urgent need to address climate change. Yet, discussions about necessary actions often featured misinformation, denying the connection between these events and human-caused climate change while spreading conspiracy theories. Why does this misinformation resonate so widely? What impact does it have on promoting sustainable attitudes and behaviors? And how can sustainability efforts be fostered in such a context?

In this presentation, Kai will explore these questions using cross-sectional, longitudinal, and experimental research. He will also discuss the potential and limitations of theory-based interventions, alongside practical applications.
