Women, Murals and Human Rights
Murals tell stories. They preserve community history, express social struggles, celebrate identity, and keep memories alive.
As part of the Human Rights Through Art Initiative, supported by the Essex Human Rights Centre, participants will be treated to visuals and commentary from Sudanese women muralists, alongside images and statements from women muralists from around the world. We will also hear from academics and human rights practitioners about women ‘s rights, and murals as a medium for human rights advocacy.

About the Human Rights through Art series - Conversations on Art, Justice and Rights
Sometimes, the human dimension of rights gets lost in legal jargon and policy papers. This independent initiative uses the beauty and power of art to re-center that humanity. Launched by a diverse group of professionals with a shared passion for Human Rights and the Arts, with the support of the Human Rights Centre at the University of Essex, this initiative uses artto spark deep conversations on human rights issues across disciplines. Through open dialogue, we’ll examine complex human rights issues with fresh eyes.
