Are you thinking of coming to University in October 2025 but haven't visited Essex yet? Here's your chance!

Come to our Clearing Open Day at our Southend Campus.

Maybe you've applied but haven't visited us yet, or perhaps you want to see our Southend Campus for yourself before taking the plunge - whatever the reason, everyone is welcome. Bring your friends and family along too!

The Clearing Open Day at our Southend Campus is on Tuesday 19 August.

Attending an Open Day will give you a chance to get to know Essex if you haven't visited us yet (or if you've been to see us already and just fancy another look around).

On the day, you'll be able to see our accommodation, get a tour of campus, meet some of our academics, chat to current students and student services.

Please make sure you check-in when you arrive - you'll even get a goody bag!

What can you expect?

On the day you'll be able to:

  • Tour campus and view our single room accommodation
  • Meet academic staff from each department
  • Chat to our Student Services team (12.00pm (midday) - 3.00pm)
  • Listen to a range of talks  

Programme 

You don't need to stay for the whole duration of the event, just choose which check-in time suits you best and join the Welcome talk, Accommodation talk and Student life talk to fit.

Welcome talk

You'll receive a warm welcome and an overview of the University of Essex Southend Campus.

11.15am 

Departmental talks followed by tours

You'll hear directly from your department what to expect when you study with us at Essex. Each talk will be followed by a departmental tour of our facilities. 

11.35am

Clearing and next steps

We'll talk you through everything related to Clearing, including how to apply to Essex through Clearing, how to get released into Clearing and how to add a Clearing choice.

12.45pm

Next steps: student finance

We will take you through the finance options available to you, how to submit an application and how to update an existing application.

1.15pm

Accommodation at Essex talk

We'll give you an overview of each type of on campus accommodation available to undergraduate students and will let you know what is available to see on the day.

Life at Essex 

Head to The Forum to visit the following stands; accommodation, library, and our Student Wellbeing & Inclusivity Services. There will also be regular campus and accommodation tours departing from The Forum.

On the day, our single room accommodation will be available to view, so just head to the check in desk to find out more information and join a tour.

Getting to us

Travelling by car

For SatNav purposes please use SS1 1LW.

There is plenty of city centre parking in public car parks. The closest car park is located underneath University Square student accommodation which accessed via College Way and is payable by phone only.

Blue badge holders with Southend on Sea issued blue badges can park for free. Badge holders with badges issued by other authorities will need to pay the appropriate car park charges, however on street parking bays remain available and free of charge to all badge holders.

Travelling by train

There are frequent trains from London to Southend which is served by two different rail lines, with journey times of 45 minutes to one hour:

  • Southend Victoria (0.3 miles from our campus) to London Liverpool Street - operated by Abellio Greater Anglia
  • Southend Central (0.2 miles from our campus) to London Fenchurch Street - operated by c2c

Both London Liverpool Street and Fenchurch Street have underground and bus connections available for connections with Stansted, Gatwick and Heathrow Airport.

Travelling by bus, coach or taxi

  • National Express operate services to Southend bus station from all over the UK.
  • As the campus is located in the city centre, most local buses stop nearby. Buses are run by Arrivabus and tickets can be bought online or via their app. Take advantage of their Student Saver tickets, available to anyone in full-time education.
  • There are also a number of local services based in Southend. Below are some of those available:

Clearing Open Day travel bursary

We appreciate that travelling to university events can be expensive and with rising costs, we want to ensure that as many of our prospective students as possible are able to visit us. We are therefore offering a bursary of up to £50 to reimburse your travel costs to visit us.
