Essex Law School - Welcome Week 2024

Come and find out more about your course, meet key members of staff like your personal tutor, and meet the people you’re going to be studying with.

Your Welcome week will be a great opportunity to meet key staff members such as your personal tutor and give you the chance to speak with some of your fellow students who will be studying on your course with you. We expect you to attend as you will receive important information to help you start your University experience.

You will also have the chance to hear about our Essex Law Clinic, Human Rights Centre Clinic (where current students work on real cases and provide advice to members of the public) and our newly established Business Law Clinic, meet current Second and Third-year students and get advice about what studying Law is like, and how to use your time at Essex to your advantage to get the best degree and experience possible.

Undergraduates

Tuesday 1 October 2024

• Find out about your School, the people you'll be working with and the upcoming year at Essex. 

• Please check your Essex emails in the lead-up to welcome week for details of your allocated room and timeslot. Normally you will receive this information a week before.
• This is the perfect time to ask questions and find out more about your studies, student wellbeing and student support services. 

• Join us for some tea and cake in the Hex and meet your fellow students (catering includes vegan and gluten-free options).
• If you're a commuting or mature student come along to the Teaching Centre from 3pm to have a chat with students in a similar situation.

Monday 30 September 2024

French Law Students Only

• Students undertaking LLB English and French Law are required to attend all relevant welcome events organised by Essex Law School as well as this induction.
• Lunch will be provided (catering includes vegan and gluten-free options). 

Wednesday 2 October 2024 

Law Degree Transfer Programme Students Only

• Students undertaking the Law degree transfer programme are required to attend all relevant welcome events organised by Essex Law School as well as this induction.

Postgraduate Taught

 Wednesday 2 October 2024

• This is your chance to meet with your peers and gain insight into Essex Law School.
• You will be meeting with staff who will help and guide you throughout the upcoming academic year.
• Talks will be given by the Dean of the School, Postgraduate Director, Academic Skills lead, Academic Liaison Librarian and Skills for Success.
• There will also be course specific inductions, please attend the ones relevant to you and the course you are registered on, these optional events will be marked with an *.

• An opportunity to socialise with students and staff in the School.

PGT Commercial Law Induction*

• A chance to meet and greet your peers and tutors from Essex Law School.
• Courses covered are LLM Maritime Law, LLM International Trade Law, LLM International Trade and Maritime Law, LLM International Commercial and Business Law, LLM Corporate Responsibility and Business Law and LLM Law and Technology.

Human Rights Induction*

• A chance to meet and greet your peers and tutors from Essex Law School.
• Courses include MA Theory and Practice of Human Rights, LLM International Human Rights Law, LLM International Humanitarian Law, LLM International Human Rights and Economic Law, LLM Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and the LLM International Criminal Law.

Introduction to International Law*

• Find out about your School, the people you'll be working with and the upcoming year at Essex
• This session covers those who are taking the LLM in International Law and LLM Law, Environment and Sustainability.
