We have an array of events throughout the week hosted by the Human Rights Centre along with the University of Essex Human Rights Society. Please join us in marking the celebrations of Human Rights week.

Human Rights Week 2023 Schedule

Human Rights Week at Essex takes place from 4-8 December 2023. We have some amazing events for you to participate in.

Monday 4 December, 4.30pm - 7pm Lakeview Room, Silberrad Student Centre Annual Human Rights Lecture presented by Kate Gilmore, former United Nations Deputy High Commissioner from 2015-2019. Each year we invite leading experts from around the world to give our Human Rights Annual Lecture. Wednesday 6 December, 3pm - 4.30pm Zoom Webinar Human Rights Speaker Series - Bringing Economic and Social Rights Home to the UK. This seminar hosted by the Human Rights Centre, chaired by Dr Koldo Casla, Senior Lecturer, Essex Law School. Click here for more information and to book your place.
Thursday 7 December, 5pm - 8pm CINE10 Human Rights Centre and Essex Transitional Justice Network Film Screening 'No'. The film “No” is a powerful account of the fight against the Chilean military dictatorship under Augusto Pinochet through a successful campaign to vote “no” in a plebiscite about whether or not the dictatorship should continue, resulting in the transition to democratic rule. Click here for more information and to book your place.
