The School of Life Sciences Seminar Series welcome Dr Matthew Rowe from Imperial College London
This talk will give some philosophical perspectives on the relationships between theory and observation in scientific inquiry; the basis of what counts - and does not count - as evidence within scientific inquiry and the status and sources of scientific knowledge. It will also look at hypothesis formation and testing, big data research and some social dimension of scientific enquiry and endeavour, with a particular emphasis on potentials for unwitting and unconscious bias in knowledge formation and analysis.
