Human Rights Speaker Series - "I did not have transnational sexual relations with that leader"

Political forces are breathing new life into old fashioned opposition to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), with more regressions in SRHR-related policy and law underway than are grabbed by news headlines. Scientific and normative breakthroughs for SRHR have seen fewer women and girls die when giving life; more infants are surviving their first days to better thrive in their first years. However, realization of universal human rights in these most intimate domains is anything but equal and inclusive. And, organized opposition to their advance is virulent, and well financed. Why? Is that simply to be expected/accepted? Are those dynamics local only? Organic and home grown? Or, are they manufactured somehow? And if so, by whom, to what end, and who benefits?

Initial findings will be presented from research into historical and contemporary flows of collaboration, investment, and promulgation that work to obstruct and erode enjoyment of sexual and reproductive rights and dignity. Possible human rights implications for law, policy and advocacy will be indicated.
