On behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Anthony Forster, we are honoured to announce that we are holding our first-ever Graduation in Pakistan on Saturday 4 March 2023.

Graduation is one of the highlights of our academic year. This event is a time to celebrate the hard work and achievements of our student community and it's going to be an unforgettable day.

Whilst our graduation ceremonies are usually reserved for our latest cohort of graduating students, we know that many of our international graduates may have missed out on attending their graduation ceremony in Colchester, or weren't able to be joined by their loved ones due to the distance. We're delighted to offer alumni in Pakistan the opportunity to 'graduate' again, in their home country with family and friends by their side.

Graduates will wear their gowns and be introduced by name before crossing the stage to be received by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Anthony Forster. Guests will be watching in the audience and there will be a reception after the ceremony with refreshments and the opportunity for everyone to celebrate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can attend Graduation?

Both students and alumni can attend Graduation.

Students must have recently finished their studies, or be due to finish their studies by Friday 3 February 2023.

All alumni are invited to attend, even if they attended their original ceremony in Colchester. It's a special opportunity for you to graduate in your home country with friends and family by your side.

I've already attended Graduation in Colchester, can I still come?

Yes. This is an opportunity for you to graduate again in front of family and friends, and celebrate everything you have achieved since your time at Essex.

Can I bring guests with me?

Of course! We are excited to offer an opportunity for you to celebrate your achievements with your family and friends and are pleased to offer up to five guest tickets per graduating student/alumni.

When booking, you will be asked for the names of each of your guests. Should you wish to change the name of a guest in your group, please email us at alumni@essex.ac.uk as soon as possible. Name changes will not be possible after Wednesday 1 March 2023.

What is included in the ticket cost?

Tickets cost £10 - this includes gown hire*, entry to the ceremony, and entry to the reception.

*only for graduating students/alumni

Is there a booking deadline?

Booking will remain open until Friday 17 February 2023 but may close early should the event reach capacity before this date. We recommend that you book tickets for yourself and your guests as soon as possible. There are a limited number of places available, and we are expecting it to be a popular event.

Can I get a refund if I've booked but can no longer attend?

If you have booked but can no longer attend, please email alumni@essex.ac.uk to request a refund. Refund requests will not be accepted after Friday 17 February 2023.

Tickets will be refunded in GBP, please note that conversions to PKR may fluctuate and be different from the time of purchase.

Can I purchase official photos on the day?

Yes, we will have an official photographer joining us and the opportunity to purchase photos in your robes and with your guests.

Is there a dress code?

All graduating students are required to wear the University of Essex academic robes. Graduation is a formal ceremony and as such smart clothing must be worn. Graduates can wear what they feel fits their gender identity and expression best underneath their gowns, as long as it is smart. Denim, t-shirts, trainers, flip-flops and other items of casual clothing are not deemed appropriate for Graduation events. International graduates who would like to wear their own national dress under their gown are very welcome to do so. Guests are encouraged to also wear smart attire.

How do I order my robes and mortar board?

We order these on your behalf and are included in the cost of your ticket. When you book your ticket, you will be asked to let us know your height and head size.

How will I receive my tickets?

Tickets will be sent to you by email prior to the event. Every attendee will be required to bring their printed ticket, along with identification, to enter the venue.

Can children attend Graduation?

Children aged five and over are welcome at Graduation but every child must be accompanied by an adult who is responsible for the child's behaviour and must have a ticket purchased for them. There are no discounts for children's tickets. Please note, it is not possible to leave the ceremony once it has started; the ceremony will last for approximately two hours.
