This online CPD session, the final one in our series this academic year, is designed to build your confidence when managing difficult conversations with parents. We will also provide insight into how universities support SEN students in their transition to Higher Education, and how you can help them in this journey.

Session outline:

3.45pm: Higher Education Update with Lynn Bowman-Burns, University of Essex

This short session will cover the support that is available to SEN students as they apply for university studies and in their transition to Higher Education. This will leave you more confident to provide advice to students and their parents or carers, helping to make the process less daunting and more approachable for all.

4.30pm: Managing Difficult Conversations with Parents with Tom Packer, Dragonfly Training Ltd.

Many of those who work in schools, support and secretarial as well as teaching, will have encountered a difficult situation with a parent or colleague at least once. Such encounters can escalate to a situation where awkward conversations are avoided, or there is a complete breakdown in communication.

This course will show you positive ways to deal with the difficult conversations we all have and deal with breakdowns in communication.
