People seeking asylum and voluntary sector workplaces

Festival of Social Science 2019

Want to know more about supporting people seeking asylum in a voluntary workplace? We can help...

People seeking asylum and voluntary sector workplaces

Join us as we discuss how people seeking asylum contribute to the voluntary sector workplace. Through a panel discussion we will explore the practical and ethical issues of voluntary work and the asylum system.

Current UK government policy restricts asylum seekers’ ability to contribute as paid workers.  Many people in the asylum system voluntarily offer their time and skills to registered charities. But how do we prevent the exploitation of voluntary workers? Through this panel discussion we examine the practicalities of this sensitive subject.

Join Dr Zibiah Loakthar from the Department of Psychosocial and Psychanalytic Studies as she hosts this panel discussion, from 12pm - 3.30pm on Monday 4 November at Voluntary Action Islington, London.

This event is part of the nationwide Festival Of Social Science, it is open to the public and completely free of charge.
