Abbey Steele (with Michael Weintraub, Håvard Mokliev Nygård, Marianne Dahl, and Helga Malmin Binningsbø): Civil War Victimization, Political Engagement, and Attitudes Towards Peace
How does wartime victimization affect political engagement and attitudes towards peace, and the implementation of a peace accord? This paper seeks to answer these questions with an original survey from two regions of Colombia, Tolima and Arauca, conducted during the ongoing implementation of a peace agreement. Both regions experienced high levels of wartime violence, and are targeted for peace accord implementation efforts. We find that victims are more likely to be politically engaged, but not more or less likely to support the peace agreement or its implementation.
