A welcome facility halfway between the warmth of a family and the outside world, the Maison Verte provides a service for pre-school children from 0 to 4 accompanied by their parents or carers.

The success of this approach has led to the spread of Maisons Vertes across France, Europe and Latin America. Over the last fifty years, Dolto’s work has influenced and inspired a number of practitioners who are concerned with the psychoanalytic understanding of childhood. In France she contributed greatly to the field of psychoanalysis with her distinctive personality, acute intuition and instinctive knowledge of infancy.

Although her work is not much known in Britain, in France Dolto is a more popular and better known psychoanalyst among the general public than Lacan. Outside the English-speaking world she is seen as an authority on child psychoanalysis and of similar stature to Klein, A. Freud and Winnicott.
