Can you contribute to our round-table discussion?

A number of events will take place between the 1 - 4 October as part of a Knowledge Exchange, organised by the AHRC-funded project "Contemporary Capoeira in Rio de Janeiro, 1948-82."

This Knowledge exchange event will combine various activities (workshops, presenting research, round-table discussions) that are relevant for professionals in the area. Whilst training sessions, discussions and round-table discussions aim to address general issues and problems arising of the combined practice of research and film making, the main focus of the film screenings will focus on history of slavery and popular culture in Africa and its diaspora.

James van der Pool (producer, BBC), Martha Abreu (History, UFF-Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and Hebe Mattos (History, UFJF-Juiz de Fora, Brazil) will participate in this round table, which will be moderated by Matthias Röhrig Assunção (History, Essex). This session will look at the following questions: How do research questions drive a film narrative? How does film making impact on research interviews? How academic can a documentary film be and still reach a non-academic audience? How can research results be conveyed in a documentary?

All our welcome to join this event and it is free to attend.
