By the end of this training session the participants will
- Have an understanding of the importance of data-sharing in the context of scientific research
- Have learned about the different types of quantitative and qualitative data available from the UK Data Service
- Know how to register with the Service to access data
- Have seen how data can be used in online tools and also downloaded into a variety of formats
- Understand how to search and browse for data using a number of different resource discovery tools
- Have seen how data are used to solve real-life problems
- Understand how to cite data effectively and increase the visibility of their own work to other researchers
- Have seen how UK Data Service resources can be used in teaching
- Know what training and support resources are available to them
- Know how to contact us for expert advice and keep in touch with new developments
Early-career researchers are the primary focus but this session would be useful for any student, academic, researcher or librarian who uses quantitative social science data sources.
