Essex Crown Sports: Korfball

Try something new, have fun and earn your department points

What's Korfball you say? Come and find out in the Week 10 Essex Crown Sports event and bring home the gold for your department!

Korfball is a fast-paced and dynamic game that is the only truly mixed team sport in the world. It's something like netball and basketball and gets it's name from the Dutch word korf which means basket. In this game the basket is a yellow hoop on a 3.5 metre post. The sport is accessible to anyone, whether young or old, male or female, beginner or international athlete. Just form a team of 8 with 4 female players and 4 male and we will take care of the rest!

If there's lots more people in your department who want to join in the fun then feel free to bring them all along, they can be subs or just watch from the sidelines and cheer your team to victory.

Each participant will get 20 points for their department if they're a student and 30 points if they're a member of staff. There will also be additional bonus points for the top teams. Make sure you encourage the rest of your department to come along and watch too because each spectator will earn your department an extra point.

What is the Essex Crown?

The Essex Crown is an exciting competition which pits departments against each other. Contenders earn points by participating in a range of different events. You'll learn new skills in workshops and enjoy some friendly rivalry in The Battle of the Consoles. There'll also be whole host of University of Essex and Students' Union events which you'll get points for by just turning up.

Finally, the top ten departments will face off against each other in The Final Showdown after which one will be crowned as the best department on campus.
