The History Research Seminar meets on Wednesday afternoons during term time to discuss a paper by a visiting historian or a member of our academic staff.
This week's speaker is Howard University's cultural and social historian Professor Ana Lucia Araujo.
Ana's work is greatly influenced by the approach of historical anthropology. Her research deals with the history and the memory of the Atlantic slave trade and slavery and their present social and cultural legacies and she is particularly interested in the public memory, heritage, and visual culture of slavery. Ana has conducted fieldwork and archival research in Brazil, Republic of Benin, Canada, France, England, and the United States, and her research is supported by various national and international agencies.
