Widening financial participation is crucial in achieving long-term development objectives. In the UK, the causes and effects of financial exclusion are many and varied, affecting a range of people at various stages in life.
The 2017 House of Lords Select Committee on Financial Exclusion report indicates that 1.71 million adults in the UK do not have a bank account. The problem is particularly severe for 18 to 19 year-olds, with around 8% not having a bank account. The report further reveals that 40% of the working age population have less than £100 in savings.
Join us at this event, which consists of lectures, visuals, games, and discussions that highlight the seriousness of the situation and look at ways to promote financial inclusion.
