COVID-19 through a social science lens

Join experts from our world-leading Faculty of Social Sciences as we go behind the headlines of the pandemic to explore the hidden consequences of life under lockdown and the return to a new normal.

How have Italian mafia fugitives been doing business during lockdown?  What will social distancing do to the emerging trend for social prescribing? What can we learn about one Indian’s state’s fight against COVID-19? How can mutual aid retain its radical roots, and how can society ease its way out of lockdown?

At Essex, our academics use pioneering methodologies to uncover inconvenient truths, test and refine dominant theories and develop new areas of knowledge. As the world wages war against one of the biggest threats it’s ever faced, trusted, evidence-based research and expertise has never been so important.
