International Women's Day

8 March is International Women’s Day and we’re running a week’s worth of events to challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, improve situations and celebrate women's achievements.

What's happening on Campus

  • Student Action for Refugees (STAR) and Refugee Action Colchester will be around Colchester campus all week collecting sanitary products to combat period poverty.
  • Suffragette Talk - Tuesday 3 March 2020 1pm - 2pm, Was the battle for Women's right to vote won because of the rupture in society caused by the First World War, or had the years of brave campaigning led to this defining moment for women?
  •  Celebrating Women in Political Science  - Friday 6 March 2020, 9.15am - 12.30pm  - Come and celebrate women in Political Science at our open forum event. Open to all, there will be discussion celebrating intellectual trajectories, followed by a round table on women in academia. With internal and external speakers
  •  Literary Patchwork - Readings from literary texts. Friday, 6 March 12pm - 1pm With a theme of creativity, sewing and patchwork-pondering, we will read some extracts from novels and plays. From Alice Walker to Virginia Woolf, sewing has been a sign of creativity, memory-making, recycling, and collective action. Come and listen to the readings, take part in discussion and try sewing some patchwork to take away with you.
  •  Research Network Panel Discussion - South Asian Women in the UK - Friday 6 March 2020 1pm - 2pm
