A Two Woman Hamlet

Dates: Tuesday 4 and Wednesday 5 March, from 7pm 
Location: Lakeside Theatre, Colchester Campus

A Two Woman Hamlet takes Shakespeare’s well-known tragedy and asks: what happens if you try to do this with a cast of two in just 60 minutes? This is an unpretentious adaptation, with joys in it for those familiar with Hamlet and those new to the story.

Cake Sale and Fundraising

To celebrate International Women's Day, the UK Data Archive are holding a number of events and the Cake Sale is supporting International Women's Day and Colchester Foodbank. Whether you'd like to donate home baked goods, store cupboard essentials, or just come along to buy cake, everyone is welcome! The UK Data Archive will be collecting donations for Colchester Foodbank and here is a link to their shopping list.

Decorating the squares

To mark a week of events for International Women's Day, the SU will decorate the campus with large pink ribbons. You will find tags displaying information about the day and links to fundraising sites etc. The ribbons will go up on Monday 6 March and stay up all week to highlight the importance of the day.

To celebrate and to showcase women's professional sport, Essex Rebels will take on Leicester Riders, one of the UK's top teams, on Saturday 11 March. Give them your support: get a ticket and help break the attendance record.

• We are inviting inspirational leaders to discuss their experiences as entrepreneurs at our Essex Start-ups IWD event 
• Meet in Square 3 for our IWD Banner Reveal and Sisterhood March. 
• FemSoc will be discussing what sisterhood means at their IWD event. 
• Celebrating women in social sciences with Professor Faten Ghosn, Professor Kathryn Adeney from the University of Nottingham and Dr Sarah Liu from the University of Edinburgh.
• The Centre for Trauma Asylum and Refugees is hosting a special screening of Bigger Than Us. The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with Mary Finn who features in the film and is also a current student on one of our MA Refugee Care courses.
• We are celebrating female social scientists in a podcast for UK Data Service on Pioneering Social Scientists with Dr Neli Demireva from Department of Social Sciences.

Wednesday 9 March

• The Women in STEM society is joining forces with the Careers team to offer a panel debate featuring Women in STEM discussing their careers and experiences. 
• The SU Women’s Officer will be making mini paper wreaths to mark IWD. 
• We’re bringing together a panel of experts to discuss reproductive rights, reproductive autonomy and self-determination in our latest HRC Speaker Series. 

Thursday 10 March

• The Women's Officer and the University of Essex Law Society will be hosting an event to let women know about their rights concerning day-to-day situations and gender inequality. 

Friday 11 March

• Come and join the Women's Officer in printing tote bags for IWD. It’s an opportunity for our community to get together and celebrate women. 
• Join the SU Women’s Officer at a self-defence class offered by our on-campus security team. 

Our societies are getting together with the Women in STEM Society to host a roundtable discussion and fundraiser.
