We are establishing a new Institute of Public Health and Wellbeing, which will open officially in January 2022.

It will be an international centre of excellence and will bring together research strengths in this area across all faculties, drive forward our research collaborations and develop strategic partnerships with national and regional organisations including NHS Trusts and Public Health England.

As research and education in public health is a strategic priority for us and with our expertise and strength from across the University, we have a broad spectrum of research and innovation expertise and knowledge.

Our work stretches from public health and inequality in the Institute for Social and Economic Research to health informatics in the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering and big data in the UK Data Archive.

We also have a vast number of health-related training programmes, in a number of areas, as well as our clinics providing health and care services. The Institute will support the University’s vision to be recognised as a centre for excellence at a local, regional and international level.

The Institute will encourage collaboration across academic departments and other parts of the University as well as with external partners across a range of public health related sectors. We hope to launch the Institute in January 2022 drawing together from across our University a range of skills and expertise in order to promote and access opportunities to benefit students, staff and the wider community.

We would very much welcome feedback, ideas and expressions of interest to help shape the Institute, so it best serves our community and promotes our strengths in the broad field of public health and wellbeing.
