When I look back at my time at Essex Business School, I realise how much these three years have shaped me, not just academically, but personally.

I chose to study BSc Finance and Management at the University of Essex because I was drawn to the campus environment and the dedicated Essex Business School building. Unlike many universities where facilities are spread across a city, Essex offered a strong sense of community and a focused space for learning, which immediately stood out to me.

Moving to the UK as an international student from India was a significant transition. My first year was largely about adjusting to a new environment, culture, and way of life. It was challenging at times, but it taught me independence and resilience quickly. By my second year, I had grown more confident and began exploring opportunities beyond academics, from travelling independently to taking on a part-time role as a Resident Assistant.

A defining moment for me was becoming financially independent in small but meaningful ways. From earning my own money to fund personal milestones, such as buying my first phone and later a MacBook through my summer internship at Morgan Stanley in Mumbai, these experiences gave me a strong sense of responsibility and achievement.

Academically, modules such as Behavioural Finance, Corporate Finance, and Corporate & Investment Banking Services have been particularly impactful. Introduction to Finance was especially important, as it provided my first foundation in the subject and shaped my interest in pursuing a career in finance.

Beyond academics, I actively engaged in student life through various societies and leadership roles. I was part of the Feminist Society, later becoming an executive member, and was also involved in Women in STEM, where I took on an executive role in my final year. I also contributed as the formation lead for the Consulting Society. Alongside this, I completed over 150 hours of volunteering and participated in initiatives such as the iTeams programme and Essex Startups events.

Balancing academics, work, and extracurricular activities was not always easy, but it taught me how to manage my time effectively and adapt to different responsibilities. These experiences have helped me develop confidence, communication skills, and a strong sense of independence.

As I approach graduation, it feels surreal how quickly the time has passed. While the current job market presents challenges, I am motivated to pursue opportunities in finance and apply the skills and experiences I have developed during my time at Essex.

Overall, my journey at Essex has been one of growth, self-discovery, and stepping outside my comfort zone. It has played a significant role in shaping who I am today and preparing me for the next stage of my career.
