BA Business Management with a Modern Language (French) – my perfect mix of marketing, communication, international business, culture and exploring French literature!

I have always been motivated by the desire to learn, grow, and create opportunities for myself. Continuing my education at university felt like the natural next step to develop both academically and professionally, particularly in a field like business and marketing where strategic thinking and practical skills are essential.

I chose to study BSc Business Management with French as it combines the two things that I love, marketing and French and it aligns perfectly with my interests in marketing, communication, and international business. I enjoy understanding how brands operate, how consumers think, and how strategy and creativity work together — and the French element has strengthened my confidence working across cultures.

My favourite aspects of the course have been the marketing-related modules, particularly those focusing on consumer behaviour and strategy. I enjoy learning how theory translates into real-world campaigns and how data and creativity combine to drive impactful marketing decisions. In my year-round French module, we explore French literature, and that is very interesting to read.

Being able to combine business management and French has opened many opportunities for me including my year abroad as a Language Assistant in France, my marketing internship in Paris during my first year and my marketing internship in London.

I have a passion for marketing, content creation, and digital communication. Alongside my studies, I am an active content creator and a Social Media Ambassador, where I enjoy using creativity to build communities and share meaningful messages.

The best part of life at Essex is the strong sense of community and diversity. It is an environment where different cultures, perspectives, and ideas are celebrated, which has helped me grow personally and professionally. There are also many fun places to explore in town with friends such as Castle Park.

I did my work placement through the Language Department and worked as an English Language Assistant in France through the British Council. In this role, I supported English language teaching in a French secondary school, working with students in a classroom environment. The experience significantly improved my French language skills, strengthened my confidence, and enhanced my cultural awareness. Living and working in France also helped me develop independence, adaptability, and strong communication skills, which have been invaluable in both my academic and professional development.

Essex has a lovely campus. I like how open and green the campus is, as well as how everything is easily accessible in one place. The social life at Essex is vibrant and inclusive. I have been involved in societies such as the Nigerian Society and French Connection, which allowed me to connect with people from different backgrounds and celebrate cultures that are important to me. I am also a part of Essex Blades Pole Dance.

After graduation, I would like to build a career in the marketing field, ideally in an international environment. I would love to continue working in Paris, where I can continue developing my professional French and gain experience in a global market, or potentially Québec, Canada, which also offers a strong international and bilingual business environment.
