How to apply

Applications to the international summer school are now open. Please check the entry requirements and, when you are ready, apply using the online application form below.

Entry requirements

All Summer School teaching is in English and so it is essential that you have the level required to follow the course. To be eligible for our international summer school you must:

  • be aged 18 or over at the start of the course
  • have completed secondary/high school or equivalent

Applied Economics, Hospitality Management: Food and Beverage, Innovation and Strategic Marketing, International Business and Commercial Law, and Python for Data Science require:

  • an IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent*

English Language, Culture and History requires:

  • an IELTS score of 5.0 or equivalent*

*For students without an IELTS certificate, we are able to accept a range of other English language qualifications. Please include details of your highest English language qualification when applying and we will be happy to consider your application. If you have any doubts about the equivalence of your qualifications please contact the international summer school team and we will be able to advise you.


EEA students do not currently need a visa to enter or study in the UK. If the UK leaves the EU, please check this page again for an update.

For non-EEA nationals, please note that it is your responsibility to make sure you have the correct visa to enter the UK for this Summer School. Please check the University's Summer Schools immigration information for further details.

Please note that if you need to apply for a short-term study visa, we will email you a visa support letter after we have received your deposit payment.

After you've applied

After receiving your application, we will contact you to request any extra information we require. We will typically ask you to send us proof of your educational and English language qualification, as well as a scanned copy of your passport or ID.

We will then aim to process your application within seven days. If you are successful, we will send you an offer letter by email. If we are unable to offer you a place for your first-choice module we may offer you an alternative course.

To confirm your place on the course, you will need to pay a deposit of £350 within 14 days of receiving our offer. We will send you payment instructions at this time. The deadline for full payment is Friday 8 May 2020. If you have questions about payment please contact the International Summer School team.
