Procedure in the event of a student death

If you or your department are advised of a student death, please contact as soon as possible the Student Wellbeing and Inclusivity Service (SWIS), or the security staff if out of hours.

SWIS will advise the student’s department and the departments of other flat members who may be affected by the incident, and will ensure that all students are offered support.

The Head of SWIS, or SWIS service managers, are the link between the family and the University and will keep the student’s department fully informed. Where appropriate, they will liaise with staff and students regarding funeral arrangements and any additional activities subject to the family’s wishes.
