Biography
Abril is a Lecturer in Adult Nursing at the School of Health and Social Care.Abril joined Essex as a Lecturer in 2018. She has previously worked as a lecturer at the University of East Anglia, at the University of Suffolk and at the University of Huelva in Spain. Abril qualified as an adult nurse in 2001 at the University of Seville in Spain and has worked as a registered nurse in the UK, Spain and Portugal, mainly in the areas of neuro-critical care, trauma and emergency care. She has also worked as a translator for the Spanish Society of Emergency Medicine. She completed a master’s degree in Nursing Science at the University of Huelva (Spain), a bachelors’ degree in Hispanic Studies with Linguistics at King’s College London and postgraduate certificates in Higher Education Practice (University of East Anglia) and in English Language and Linguistics (University of Seville, Spain). Abril’s main research interests are patient safety, stroke and evaluating the impact of health care practitioners’ training and education. She has led funded knowledge exchange and professional practice projects in the UK and she cooperates with research groups in Spain. Abril is currently working on her doctoral thesis about nursing competencies.
