Biography

Esin’s main research interests lie in the areas of EU constitutional law and asylum law. She has in particular written about EU solidarity, examining the theoretical foundations and normative parameters of European solidarity in general and asylum solidarity more specifically. Esin is currently working on a monograph entitled ‘European Integrated Border Management and Solidarity: The Limits of Protection Responsibility’ which will be published by Hart Publishing in 2023. The book undertakes the first comprehensive and integrated analysis of asylum solidarity in the EU and reflects on the past, present and future of the concept. Prior to joining Essex Law school, Esin was a lecturer in European law at Lancaster University. Previous to this, Esin taught European law at King’s College London, where she was also awarded a PhD in law. She is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a qualified lawyer in Turkey.
