Profile

Biography

Rasha started her career working with refugees and asylum seekers in Egypt after she completed her Bachelors degree in Psychology and Applied Probability and Statistics at the American University in Cairo (AUC). Following that, she moved to the UK to complete a Masters degree in Social Work at Goldsmiths College where her placements included working within a community mental health team and within a womens project at an organisation that works with refugees and asylum seekers. Following completion of her degree, Rasha worked in various mental health recovery and crisis houses supporting people who have just been discharged from psychiatric units. In 2012, Rasha started working in the Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG) sector initially conducting frontline work as an Independent Domestic Violence Advocate (IDVA) and an Independent Sexual Violence Advocate (ISVA) followed by a Service Manager role. During this time, she gained the IDVA, ISVA and Domestic Abuse Service Manager qualifications. In 2018, Rasha moved on to roles that focused on improving responses to VAWG at an operational and strategic level within various local authorities. As of 2021, Rasha has carried out consultancy work with non-profit organisations and local authorities. She has continued to take part in volunteer work over the last four years with organisations that work with refugees and asylum seekers and continues to work as a freelance VAWG trainer and mentor. More recently, Rasha has worked as a Senior Research Officer on a Home Office funded project examining domestic abuse perpetrator profiles in Essex.
