Profile

Biography

Areas of Competence: Evidence-Based Policy Development. Programme Management. Program and Project Evaluation. Budget Development and Monitoring. Project Development. Digital Technologies. Network and Partnership Development. Healthcare Knowledge Management. Data Analysis. Systems Thinking. I was re-appointed (in July 2021) to the peer review college of the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) in the UK, and am a reviewer for large grant applications (over £2 million) for NIHR and Medical Research Council (MRC). I am also a post-project evaluator for NIHR and MRC. I have led research into the health analysis and health management projects related to Universal Health Coverage via three long-term five-year projects in the Middle East, all of which had multiple stakeholders. I have over 19 years of experience, as a tenured academic managing over 14 international research projects, including 3 research grants as a Principal Investigator, working with a diverse group of stakeholders in different cultural contexts (e.g. in the UK, USA, Singapore, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Mexico, Indonesia, and India). I have over 50 publications, including 8 edited books encompassing Healthcare Knowledge Management, Healthcare Information Technology, Systems Thinking, and Sustainability. From September 2004 till December 2022, I was a tenured academic at the University of Hull (14th oldest UK University), with expertise in Healthcare Knowledge Management and Systems thinking. I was a Core Member of the Centre for System Studies, which is regarded as one of the top five system thinking research groups worldwide. I have served as the Deputy Director of the Centre for Systems Studies, and the Deputy Graduate Research Director at the University of Hull. I was also a member of the University of Hull Senate, and the University of Hull Court, which are key decision-making bodies, wherein I collaborated with colleagues across disciplines on wider strategic planning processes, using evidence-based metrics to link investments to medium and long-term strategic direction.
