Profile
Biography
I joined the University of Essex in the fourth quarter of 2021 as a Lecturer in Health and Social Care. I’m keen to relish this role to advance my research and support students to maximise their potential for addressing critical global issues. I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with some of the best researchers and academics from at least five continents and 10 countries including the United Kingdom, United States, New Zealand, Japan, Chile, and Germany. In the last five years, I’ve led research projects in gerontology, physical activity, clinical research, psychometrics, and epidemiology at the Africa Centre for Epidemiology where I served as Principal Research Fellow and Executive Director. I'm a consultant to the National Health Service through various Trusts in Essex, United Kingdom. I'm currently editing a book entitled "Sustainable Neighbourhoods for Ageing in Place: An Interdisciplinary Voice against Global Crises", which will be published by Springer in the first quarter of 2024. I also serve on the editorial boards of several journals, including BMC Public Health and PLOS ONE. I’m keen to contribute to the development of evidence-based healthy ageing policies for contexts experiencing crises such as war, climate change events, radical industrialisation, and the outbreak of infectious diseases. To this end, I’m currently mobilising a multidisciplinary network of practitioners and researchers from six continents toward the formation of the International Sustainable Ageing Research Group (ISARG), a global network to be dedicated to policy-driven research in “sustainable ageing”. Please email me if you want to join this group. Finally, I’m accepting PhD researchers, especially those from the Gulf Region (e.g., Saudi Arabia). I’m an Honorific Professor on the African Scientists Directory established through the collaboration of the International Science Council and the Academy of Sciences of South Africa. I'm currently mobilising funds to undertake a randomised controlled trial on "changes in social networks and their health outcomes in later life". I plan to compile through a systematic review and Delphi study a comprehensive report detailing policy directions for healthy ageing amidst climate change events. Funders and collaborators are invited to support these projects.
