Biography

Jemma Wright, Dip HE (Adult Nursing), Dip HE (Midwifery), BSc (Specialist Community Public Health Nursing), MSc Psychology, is a clinician and academic specialising in perinatal mental health. She works clinically within a perinatal mental health service while pursuing a supporting PhD at the University of Essex. With a professional background as a registered nurse, midwife, and health visitor, Jemma brings extensive experience from across women and children services. She has also spent ten years of her career as an Inspector with the Care Quality Commission, leading NHS and independent hospital inspections across England, with particular focus on women and children's services and enforcement. Her academic research is focused on birth trauma and its impact on maternal mental health and early child development. She is affiliated with The Essex Baby Lab and the Essex Perinatal Mental Health Service, with a keen interest in neuropsychology - auditing relevant university modules. Through these partnerships, alongside her doctoral studies, she aims to make a meaningful contribution to advancing knowledge and evidence-based practice in relation to maternity and perinatal mental health service provision.
