Profile

Biography

Dr Anh Nguyen is a Senior Research Officer in the School of Health and Social Care at the University of Essex and a part of the Institute of Public Health and Wellbeing. His academic training includes clinical research at Harvard Medical School and a clinical doctorate from the University of Stirling. His work advances health equity for vulnerable communities in Asia through strengthening inclusive health systems and participatory governance. At Essex, he contributes to a multi-country programme examining social participation in the pursuit of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) at Centre for Global Health and Intersectional Equity Research. His work focuses on learning systems development and impact valuation, applying realist and mixed-methods approaches to understand how participatory processes inform priority-setting and support sustainable health system reform. His research sits at the intersection of behavioural science, nutrition and health systems, exploring how structural and contextual determinants shape maternal and child health. He develops theory-informed, culturally grounded interventions that integrate behavioural modelling, including COM-B and Behaviour Change Wheel frameworks, and implementation science in resource-constrained settings. Beyond his academic work, Dr Nguyen has dedicated his career to advancing the health and well-being of children and families, combining over a decade of clinical practice in the UK as a registered nutritional therapy practitioner with interdisciplinary research at the Asia Behavioural Insights and Parenting Lab and sustained engagement with a large community of Asian parents. He is a Fellow of the British Association for Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine and Ambassador of The Genetics Society, serves on the editorial boards of JMIR Pediatrics & Parenting and PLOS ONE, and is a member of Cochrane and UNESCO Inclusive Policy Lab.
