Profile

Biography

I am a virologist with a PhD from the Wuhan Institute of Virology (Chinese Academy of Sciences) and Institut Pasteur (Paris), where my research focused on the molecular epidemiology, virus discovery, evolution, and ecology of bat-borne viruses such as rhabdoviruses and coronaviruses. After completing my PhD, I held a Wellcome Trust Research Fellowship at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, where I studied dsRNA virus replication and genome assembly in Bluetongue virus using molecular, biochemical, and cellular approaches. Currently, I am a Senior Research Officer at the University of Essex, working on coronavirus biology, 3D cell culture systems, single-cell sequencing, and bat-virus research. My expertise spans virology, molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, and bioinformatics. I am particularly passionate about virus discovery, zoonotic spillover, diagnostic development, biosafety, and virus-host interactions, bat biology — all within a One Health framework.
