Biography
Dr Gabrielle Lin has research interests in applied economics and behavioural economics, with a focus on demand modelling and decision-making. Her research explores how economic principles influence consumer behaviour and consumption patterns, employing econometric and statistical techniques for analysis. Her recent work has examined the impacts of COVID-19 and the cost-of-living crisis on industry demand and employee wages. Gabrielle holds a dual PhD in Tourism Economics from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the University of Surrey, along with a master’s degree in Financial Engineering from City University of Hong Kong and a bachelor’s degree in Hotel and Tourism Management from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Her research has been published in Annals of Tourism Research, Journal of Travel Research, International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management, and others.

Research interests
Applied economics
Investigating real-world economic issues in services and related sectors, with a focus on demand, pricing, revenue management, labour productivity, wage dynamics, and the impacts of crises and policies.
Behavioural economics and decision-making
Exploring how psychological and behavioural factors shape consumer and firm decisions, using behavioural economic models to explain deviations from rational choice.
Business analytics
Employing robust analytical techniques and computational tools to derive insights from data, support decision-making, and strengthen the methodological foundation of applied research.
Demand modelling and forecasting
Developing and applying advanced models to capture dynamic demand patterns, improve fitting/forecast accuracy, and assess market responses to shocks, policies, and competition.
