Profile

Biography

Geza Koczian is a Senior Research Officer in the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering at the University of Essex and is currently undertaking a part-time PhD. His research focuses on the advancement of sustainable, high-capacity wireless communication networks, intelligent data-driven systems, and energy-aware ICT infrastructure. Geza is presently working full time on the CircuBatt H2020 project, which addresses circularity, energy efficiency, and sustainability in battery systems, with a strong emphasis on integrating artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big data analytics into next-generation solutions. He previously contributed to the SAMBAS initiative, pioneering millimetre wave micro base stations powered by renewable energy. With over a decade of academic experience, Geza has played a significant role in several major EU and UK research programmes, including the Horizon 2020 projects CHARISMA, iCIRRUS, and NIRVANA, focusing on cloud-based architectures, network virtualisation, and ultra-reliable, low-latency communications. He has also led the design and implementation of the world’s first rail-approved 10Gb/s and 40Gb/s Ethernet inter-car connectivity systems for the rail industry, advancing high-speed data communications and contributing to the field of resilient communication infrastructures for transport applications. Geza is committed to bridging theoretical research and practical innovation, developing and prototyping systems that unite advanced communications with intelligent data processing for applications ranging from indoor virtual reality and vehicular networking to environmental IoT deployments in remote environments. He has published in leading international journals and conferences, including IEEE Access, IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, and works published by Wiley. He is passionate about research that delivers tangible impact in environmental sustainability, digital infrastructure, and intelligent systems for the future.
