Unveiling the Role of a Putative Serine-Ligated Heme in Manganese Oxidation by Candidatus Manganitrophus noduliformans

My project is focused on investigating a unique cytochrome from Candidatus Manganitrophus noduliformans, a bacterium known for its ability to oxidize manganese to support growth. This specific cytochrome contains a rare putative serine-ligated heme, an unusual feature that is of significant interest due to its potential to alter the redox properties of the heme. The research involves a multidisciplinary approach.
