Biography

Jo-Anne is a BPC registered Psychodynamic Psychotherapist. She qualified with WPF Post Graduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy (with adults), continuing to gain a Masters Degree from Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust and University of East London in Psychological Therapies with Children, Young People and Families in addition to Post Graduate Diploma in Systemic Theory. In her research she will be using Reflexive Thematic Analysis to analyse Data to create a psychoanalytic theoretical framework for working with women going through the menopause life stage. Jo-Anne has an online practice working mainly with adults and supervises psychodynamic psychotherapists and counsellors.

Thesis

The meaning of menopause: How does menopause manifest in the consulting room and can this be thought about in relation to a psychoanalytic theory of the menopause stage?

The menopause currently has a prominent place in the media and society in general, however it remains grossly underrepresented in psychoanalytic writing and thinking. An exploration is now needed to consider the menopause not only as a medical occurrence but to focus on the psychological meaning and the impact that it has on the female identity through a psychoanalytic lens.
