Profile

Biography

I am an HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist currently undertaking a part-time PhD, using a Participatory Action Research approach to explore more accessible and inclusive ways of evaluating disabled people's participation in sport and physical activity. I am particularly interested in occupational in/justice and how Occupational Therapists can work with marginalised groups to address inequalities in access to occupations, particularly through collaborative and co-produced research approaches. I also work three days a week in clinical practice as an Occupational Therapist at Brainkind The Chantry Neurological Care Centre.

Thesis

Nothing about us without us: Working with disabled people to identify accessible and inclusive ways of evaluating their participation in sport and physical activity

Disabled people and those with long-term health conditions are less likely than the general population to engage in sport and physical activity, a situation compounded by the inaccessible and non-inclusive way that participation is evaluated. Taking a Participatory Action Research approach to work with a group of disabled people as co-researchers, this project aims to explore more accessible and inclusive means of evaluating disabled people's participation in sport and physical activity.
