Biography

David joined the British Army in 1997 and began his career with the Band of the Scots Guards at Buckingham Palace. He then transferred to the Royal Army Medical Corps and gained a scholarship to study Diagnostic Radiography at the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine. Upon completing his degree, David went on to lead medical teams in trauma hospitals on busy operational tours of Iraq and Afghanistan. After carrying out instructor and training roles, Dave then went on to attend Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and commissioned as an officer. He held a number of staff and command appointments within 2nd Medical Brigade and upon promotion to Major, was selected to attend the Intermediate Staff & Command Course at the Defence Academy, Shrivenham. David joined University of Essex in 2015, working as Faculty Placements Manager within the Faculty of Science & Health and then a Work Based Learning Manager within Student Development. Always keen to support students and promote work-based and practice education, he completed a PG Cert in Healthcare Education whilst teaching/supervising on a number of modules across the faculty. With a keen interest in Leadership & Management, David completed a MBA in 2020 and continues to serve in the British Army Reserves. He joined the School of Health and Social Care in 2021 and leads modules in Healthcare Leadership & Management, Interprofessional Working and Learning, Teaching & Assessment. He has a keen interest in research and is currently completing a research doctorate exploring the online learning experiences of health and social care students.
