Biography
Stephanie (Steph) Baker is Nurse Lecturer within the Health, Wellbeing and Care Hub. Her background is learning disabilities nursing. Steph qualified in 2003 as a Registered Nurse Learning Disabilities following completion of her DipHE at Anglia Ruskin University, Chelmsford. Steph worked in an NHS inpatient unit for people with profound and multiple learning disabilities. As well as this unit being home for 7 residents it also provided respite to people living with families or who had been discharged from hospital with additional physical health needs. When the unit closed Steph moved into community nursing where she spent 11 years supporting people in the community. Steph’s passion is ensuring people with learning disabilities received equal health care and her interests is in physical health. She spent 9 years as the clinical nurse specialist for people with Learning Disabilities and Autistic people at Colchester Hospital. This role meant she experienced many physical health issues as she supported people to understand their own diagnosis. Steph joined the Hub in February 2025 as the Nurse Lecturer and strives to give the students a holistic experience that prepares them for qualification and registration. Steph is a registered nurse on the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register and is a member of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN).
