Mamadi, who is graduating with a BA International Relations from the Department of Government, has made a remarkable contribution to research, advocacy and student engagement during his time at Essex.
He chose to study at Essex as the course aligned with his aspirations to work in diplomacy and international organisations.
During his studies he got the rare opportunity to showcase his research around conflict in Sudan at a special Posters in Parliament event at Westminster in London.
“Being in Parliament was an unreal feeling,” he said. “Standing in a place where numerous important decisions have been made and where people have gathered was an amazing experience.”
Keen to embrace all opportunities open to him, Mamadi was also an Essex student ambassador for the European University alliance YUFE, where he got the opportunity to travel to Germany and Poland, championing student initiatives aimed at improving the student experience.
“As part of my YUFE role I also attended forums dedicated to various goals, such as Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), and improving cohesion between the partner institutions in the alliance. I loved the experience and all that it taught me. Meeting new people and learning from their experiences and perspectives was incredibly important to me.”
Reflecting on his time at Essex, Mamadi, who is from Guinea in West Africa, added: “The university is incredibly diverse and welcoming, providing numerous opportunities to start a new chapter in your life.
“It equips you with tools to enhance both your social and academic skills. Attending this university has had a positive impact on my life, and I am confident it will continue to benefit any student who chooses to enrol here.”
He credits Professor Reed Wood, Professor Natasha Lindstaedt, Dr Prabin Khadka and Professor Faten Ghosn for “profoundly impacting my experience at Essex, offering not only guidance but also valuable opportunities that have truly helped elevate my career path”.
He plans to continue his academic journey by studying for a Masters in International Relations at King’s College London.
